Ell is an American record producer, radio host, engineer, and DJ who is most well known for his time spent playing in the United States and Europe for concerts and tours with the likes of Afroman, ASAP Rocky, Big K.R.I.T., Curren$y, Danny Brown, J. Cole, Joey Bada$$, Juicy J, KRS-One, Logic, Slum Village, Talib Kweli, Twista, Wale, amongst others.

Ell co-hosts the longest running (“88”) North American Hip-Hop radio show “Prop Shop” on WCBN-FM, and can be heard on stations including Big City 101.3-FM Boston, WMBR Cambridge, MA, and KSHI, NM. He has been a featured performer at events hosted by MTV, Vans, Red Bull, United States Democratic Party, United States Armed Forces, and festivals including Fallas (Spain), Imaginarium (Spain), Warped Tour (U.S.), alongside U.S. tours with Big Sean’s Finally Famous, Machine Gun Kelly/ EST19XX, and Wiz Khalifa’s Taylor Gang.

When Ell is not behind the turntables, he can be found mixing FOH or monitors for tours such as 50 Cent‘s ‘The Final Lap Tour‘ with Busta Rhymes, or for artists including Cam’ron, Cordae, Do or Die, Dreamville, EarthGang, J.I.D., Jeremih, Twista, and others. Currently, he tours as a monitor engineer for Jeremih.

Ell is currently faculty at the Dark Horse Institute, Michigan Technological University, and the Neutral Zone where he teaches sound mixing, DJing, and audio engineering. He has presented Music Industry, DJing, Production, and Audio Techniques classes, workshops, and lectures at universities including Berklee College of Music, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and the University of Michigan.

“I’ll be Damned” is an exercise in tension. The Brooklyn-based r & b up and comer Russell Elliot weaves a self-portrait of a man devastated and confused–and how often those feelings can commingle and morph into a seething, indignant anger. But more often than not, that anger is internalized–used as a means to guilt ourselves that spins us further into our heads. “I’ll be Damned” is an exorcism of these feelings, an airing-out if these grievances, both against self and a former lover but in such heartbreakingly specific ways.

“I’ll be Damned,” make no mistake, is a deeply angry and frustrated song. But that pent-up rage is such clearly manifested hurt and shame for having cared for a person who didn’t value the singer, nor even saw fit to “have his back.” The hurts and grievances alluded to in the lyrics aren’t even directed explicitly at the loss of the relationship itself, but at the feelings of the presence of an imbalanced respect. “I might not have been good for you but I was good to you/I might not be right for you but I made right for you when you needed someone.” The vocal virtuoso performance deftly maneuvers these charged lyrics into a reserved yearning.”
